Girl groups have become passeé, but a new pop trio is looking to launch a colorful musical revival. Slander, Secret and Privacy, collectively known as The Yes Ma’ams, describe themselves as “sugar, spice and everything nice.” The group is proffering something new to music lovers — edgy lyrics, audacious attitudes and cover girl looks to boot.

In April, The Ma’ams, whose name is synonymous with the ultimate stamp of approval, released their Taste Test EP, driven mainly through social media; bloggers and Instagram addicts all rallied together, as well as members of the LGBT community, who’ve already become loyal fans. As they prepared for their release party in Atlanta, the ladies told rolling out that their diverse fan base comes as no surprise especially when you consider their “undeniable” relatability

“We’re sickening!” said Privacy.

“I think that’s something that’s undeniable about us. What we have is undeniable,” added Slander.

In addition to their fan base, the ladies talked about their signature style that varies from designer digs to do-it-yourself projects, as well as their plans for the future. “We’re always recording, there’s always something new just in case we want to drop a song tomorrow, said Slander.

Mishon is a musician, actor, singer-songwriter and a multifaceted entertainer with passion and talent wise beyond his years. At just 19 years old he’s already found his face splashed across television screens after nabbing a role on the popular ABC drama, “Lincoln Heights,” a moment he likens to fate. “Acting for me it was kind of chance,” says the singer. “I just started acting and Lincoln Heights was one of the first auditions I went on. It ended up becoming the pilot got picked up and turned into a full season. That was a blessed opportunity that I had.”

Now with legions of teens watching, Mishon’s inviting them to explore his one true reverence; music. A hobby turned-nonstop-hankering, music is the one thing this bright-eyed youth still can’t resist, even while his acting career continues. The vocalist will be featured in “Note To Self,” an original BET movie, as well as a David Tolbert produced play this summer. “My music career is my passion but music is a tougher industry to attack at ground level. I’ve been doing music since I was 11 years old and I’m just bubbling right now. I feel likes it takes a lot more on the music side. Everything has to line up, your team has to line up, the talent, the vision has to all be there when the opportunity comes and everybody has to take their job as serious as they possibly can.”

With that in mind, he’s releasing Dorm Room Music, a primarily R&B project that he describes as “something you can have a good time to.” The lead single, “Victoria’s Secret” is about getting to know someone on a deeper level. Dorm Room Music is definitely worth a listen.

British actor John Boyega wants you to know that a film about South London juveniles fighting aliens is more than what meets the eye.

Yes, there are gory fight scenes with gorilla-sized Martians taking on wide-eyed kids—blood splatter and coarse language included, but it’s all in good fun.

This rising star who’s inspired by Idris Elba and Andrew Garfield, ultimately wants viewers to enjoy themselves when they take to theaters to see “Attack The Block”, the science fiction horror film in which he plays the lead role.

“I would love for people to have fun, just have fun. Cheer, laugh and jump. It’s scary, it’s a horror action based comedy and it’s just a great night out at the cinema. I just want people to enjoy this project.”

Boyega, plays the role of Moses, a leader of a five-man teen troupe who causes mayhem in the streets unbeknownst to their caretakers who all live in the same flat.

According to Boyega, Moses finds himself at a crossroads and in the end has to choose between good and evil.

In “Attack The Block” you see Moses go from relishing in street life and criminal behavior (the film opens with a robbery), to saving the world after a catalyst of events leads to an extraterrestrial invasion.

Viewers will watch Moses grow up before their eyes.

HipHopWired: Right. Let’s change gears here and bring it back to you Rev. As a hip-Hop, legend how do you balance your strong religious beliefs as a pastor with your support of a secular industry?

Rev Run: Well you’ve got Rev Run on MTV showing you something else so the balance becomes, okay there’s “Scarface” on Channel 2 and there’s the “Cosby’s” on Channel 4. It’s going down like this here and it’s going down like that there. You got a bunch of different choices. Life is a big buffet, stick your hand in and grab what you can. This world is so full of so many different things. I think that this world is big enough and diverse enough to find a place we want to hang out or balance it.

HipHopWired: With that being said, what is the Reverend’s overall opinion on the state of Hip-Hop today?

Rev Run: I like it. I like Jay-Z, Beyonce, I love the business people. Jay-Z’s married, Beyonce’s amazing. Young Jeezy’s doing what he supposed to do, he’s very dope on the mic. I love the creativity of Gucci Mane, I like some of the stuff. I’m part of it. Hip-Hop is on MTV in the form of a Reverend. Hopefully they look at me and gather a little bit of that and not try to fight the fact that Run has going on his life. Hopefully that weighs a little on all these rappers that might be slightly unruly, put a little bit of Rev Run on ya. I mean I might not be the coolest but maybe I can get a little bit of the things that are on me onto them and I think Hip-Hop’s okay. You still got Run preaching a great message so god is good to us all.

HipHopWired: So speaking of your book, Man Up, I know you criticize a lot of people for constantly blaming white America for problems in the Black community. So with that being said, what’s your take on the Henry Louis Gates, Jr. case?

Dr. Perry: I think that brother should’ve shut his damn mouth! That’s what I think.

HipHopWired: Wow, really?!

Dr. Perry: Same thing I would do, same thing I teach my little Black boys. When somebody’s standing in front of you with a weapon, handcuffs and a baton, you should just fall back.

HipHopWired: So why do you think people are so quick to jump on “the White man” when something like this happens?

Dr. Perry: Because it’s easy! It’s easy, it’s easy for us to blame something on the Boogie Man. It’s what we do for children when we explain the inexplicable by putting it on the back of the Boogie Man and we as adults have to be more thoughtful than that. I mean come on, who hasn’t told a little Black boy when the police pull you over, show em’ your hands. Shut your mouth and get home before you end up dead. Right?

HipHopWired: Absolutely.

Dr. Perry: He gets up there and is like, “Oh it’s just because I’m a Black man. Come on chief!

HipHopWired: So you don’t think it was racial profiling? You don’t?

Dr. Perry: Oh no no. I’m for sure it was racial profiling. For sure, for sure! They wouldn’t have done that if he was a white guy for sure. For suuuuuuuuuure, for suuuuuuuuuure!…

Amber Rose is officially on the promo trail for her upcoming album and her new line of Smirnoff vodka.

While on the red carpet for the Soul Train Music Awards, the model/girlfriend of Wiz Khalfia confirmed to HipHopWired that her musical debut would be a pop project.

And while it still remains untitled and will no doubt feature her Taylor Gang beau, Rose remained mum on any of her collaborations.

“It’s pop, it’s gonna be popular. It’s house music, it’s gonna be fun, dance music,” said Rose. 
“It’s just real, it’s everything that I feel that I’m putting into music.[...] I have a few people in mind but that’s gonna be a surprise.”

Moving past her new passion for pop music, Rose also spoke on her Smirnoff ads for the company’s ‘Fluffed Marshmallow’ and ‘Whipped Cream’ vodka flavors.

According to Rose, both choices play off her good girl and bad girl persona.

“I’m doing a campaign for fluffed marshmallow and whipped cream. The fluffed marshmallow is when you want to be a good girl or a good boy and the whipped is when you want to feel a little bad. And I’m both of those things, sometimes I’m a good girl and sometimes I’m a bad girl, I like them both.“

Before wrapping up with HHW, Rose also offered this last tidbit to people who don’t think she’s qualified to be a judge on BET’s Master Of The Mix” DJ competition,

“I don’t know how to DJ but I do know how to party, I literally get paid to travel around the world to party so that’s what I judge the DJs on.”

While on the red carpet of the 2011 Soul Train Awards, HipHopWired chatted with BET exec Stephen Hill and Robin Thicke.

Both Hill and Thicke reminisced with HHW about their favorite ‘Soul Train’ moment including Stephen’s pick; when Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre came out in a car for their performance.

“When they came out to the Soul Train Awards in a car?! Come on! I’ve been trying to recreate that for years.”

Thicke also spoke on his upcoming album and revealed his role at the awards for a special dedication.

Additionally we have confirmation that both Andre 3000 and Big Boi will drop solo projects, both before the end of 2011.

A rock solid industry source tells HipHopWired,

“Outkast is on track to release a new album by early next year. Both Dre and Big are working on solo projects; they want those out by the end of 2011.”

Ne-Yo was spotted in ATL this weekend where he attended a special event honoring himself and other legends in songwriting.

The singer attended the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul ATL Legends dinner where honorees included himself, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, Devyne Stephens, Usher and Andre 3000.

While on the red carpet he checked in with HipHopWired and talked a number of topics including his Compound Foundation, his track “The Way You Move” with T-Pain and Trey Songz and his upcoming newborn.

As previously reported, the singer’s girlfriend Monyetta Shaw is pregnant with their second child and Neyo confirmed that this time they’re expecting a boy.

He says however that his son won’t be a Jr., and will have to establish his own name.

“No he’s not gonna be a Jr., I wouldn’t even curse him like that. I’m gonna give him his own name, let him make his own way.”
